-
Open your statements and compare them to your month's receipts

When notified that a data bank containing your credit card information may have been breached (such as by a computer hacker), call the issuing company and cancel the card, then request another be issued.
Never:

Loan your card to anyone
-
Record your account number or password where others are likely to find
it

Allow anyone the opportunity to see over your shoulder when using an ATM machine, or automatic account withdrawal at a store
-
Leave your ATM or credit card behind after using them
-
Sign a blank receipt. Make sure that you draw a line through any blank areas on either side of the amount you have charged.
